Is Wearable Tech Safe?
Is Your Wearable Tech Safe?
“Wearable tech has never been tested for safety. Period. No one can say it is safe, because there have been no long-term studies into the health effects of these devices. Quite to the contrary, wireless wearables operate with the same microwave radiation as cell phones—that have been tied with many poor health outcomes including cancer. Our new website www.showthefineprint.org includes specific manufacturers’ warnings that advise keeping phones away from the body. It makes absolutely no sense to assume that wireless wearables (that are often used in tandem with cellphones) are safe.” EHT President and Founder Dr. Devra Davis
“I worry that wearables may increase our total exposure. All that radiation will be adding up. Wearables are something you’re more likely to keep on your body, so you’re more likely to have a sustained close exposure.” Dr. Hugh Taylor
"An important lesson that should be learned from the NTP studies on cell phone radiofrequency radiation is that we cannot assume any current or future wireless technology is safe without adequate testing." - Dr. Ronald Melnick, Ph.D. Senior Toxicologist National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, National Institute of Health.
“More than a dozen studies have shown that low-intensity microwave radiation similar to that emitted by Bluetooth can open up the blood-brain barrier, a layer of cells that block pathogens and toxins in the body from reaching the brain. That could lead to conditions such as autism, dementia, and brain cancer.” Dr. Joel Moskowitz
From the Environmental Health Trust: The CDC hired an industry consultant, Kenneth Foster PhD, to review and develop materials on wireless wearables and non-ionizing radiation. Foster has a long history of being hired by companies to serve as the safety consultant in smart-meter, cell tower and high voltage powerline cases. He lists Motorola, Bell Atlantic Mobile, Comcast Metrophone, Sprint Spectrum, Omnipoint Cellular Communications, and Electric Power Research Institute. (Search Foster to see his CV). An online search finds several examples of Foster presenting as the industry “safety expert” for T Mobile, Towers of PA, AT and T regarding cell tower safety. Kenneth Foster PhD, has published numerous research studies on 5G and wireless radiation directly funded by wireless and electric company organizations such as the Wi-Fi Alliance, the Mobile Manufacturers Forum, the Electric Power Research Institute and the GSMA who “represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide.” (Click here to see examples of his studies and industry group sponsors.)
Additionally, the World Health Organization has classified Radio Frequency Radiation (the type emitted by cell phones and wearable technology) as a Class 2B Carcinogen.
