EMF DIY
Simple Do It Yourself steps you can take NOW to reduce EMF's and create a more natural home and workplace environment.
EMF DIY Help - Level 1
LEVEL 1 - Do it yourself and do it now! No meters, tools, or equipment necessary. Follow these simple steps to immediately begin reducing harmful EMF's in your home or workplace by (1) turning things off or (2) unplugging things:
Turn off your WiFi. Without a meter, the best way to assure that your WiFi is off is to unplug it from the electrical power receptacle. Ultimately, it will be important to completely replace WiFi with hardwired Ethernet, but this step is a bit more involved for Level 1. If you can't turn off WiFi during the day because you need internet for work, etc., at least turn it off at night 2 hours before going to bed. Leave it off all night while you are sleeping.
Turn off your smartphone or cell phone at night before going to bed. If you prefer to place your smartphone on airplane mode instead of turning it off, please have your smartphone's airplane mode tested to prove that it is working properly. In some smartphones, airplane mode is defective and you won't know without testing.
Turn off all wireless devices in your home before going to bed. If you turn off your WiFi but leave on wireless devices like cordless phones, cell phones, baby monitors, laptop computers, wireless printers, and wearable technology like the oura ring and smartwatch - they will be emitting RF pulsed microwave radiation while you are sleeping. Turning off these wireless devices before going to bed will eliminate your exposure to the RF radiation produced by these devices while you sleep. You will likely sleep much better with them turned off. Turn them all off.
Do not use a microwave oven. The radiation from a microwave oven extends 40 feet in all directions. Replace with a regular or convection oven.
Turn off all electric power servicing your bedroom at night before you go to bed. This is done by simply turning off your bedroom's electrical switch (circuit breaker) located in the main electric service panel or sub-panel. This will help eliminate harmful electric and magnetic fields produced from your home's electrical wiring.
Please note: turning off your circuit breaker(s) stops the electricity to the "hot" wire, not the neutral or ground wires. If there are wiring errors in your electrical system, stray voltage may continue to be present even when the breaker is turned off.
Unplug electrical appliances and devices when they are not in use. Things like toasters, blenders, coffee makers, etc., have power cords that carry electric and magnetic fields along the power cord wires when they are plugged in. Get in the habit of unplugging these items.
Never hold your cell phone against your head. Use speaker function or air tube headphones (not wired). Turn the cell phone all the way OFF if you are going to carry it in your pocket or bra. Read your cell phone's user manual. The manufacturer is warning you to keep the device away from the body.
Never allow children to use cell phones or tablets. They are not safe.
Do not place laptop computers or tablets on your lap. Set them on a table top when using them and check to make sure airplane mode is turned ON if you are connected to ethernet instead of wifi.
EMF DIY Help - Level 2
LEVEL 2 - Making some changes. No meters or special equipment necessary, though you may need some basic tools.
Move your bed away from outer walls which may be near exterior electrical panels and smart meters, or inner walls that may be right behind the refrigerator.
Replace CFL light bulbs with regular incandescent style bulbs that don't have transformers. CFL light bulbs cause Dirty Electricity.
Replace dimmer switches with regular light switches. These contribute to Dirty Electricity. If you don't have experience doing this, better to hire an electrician.
Do not use 2-prong to 3-prong electrical adapters. These are very common and a lot of people use them to plug a 3-prong electrical power cord into a 2-prong wall receptacle. Don't do it! It's not grounded which means it's not safe, and this setup contributes greatly to high electric and magnetic fields. If your power cord is the 3-prong type, it needs to plug into a 3-prong electrical receptacle.
Smart Meter mitigation. Smart meters emit pulsed microwave radiation and contribute to electromagnetic interference (dirty electricity). If you have a smart meter attached to your main electrical service panel, you can have it replaced with an analog meter by contacting your power company. Many states have an "opt out" option for smart meters although some states do not. Check with your power company about this. Some homeowners shield their smart meter with guards, however, this may not be permitted by your power company. If you shield your smart meter and your power company discovers the shield, they may likely remove it.
EMF DIY Help - Level 3
LEVEL 3 - Guided DIY.
This level requires EMF test meters and electronic test equipment. We teach you how to use the test meters and guide you through the testing process.
The following test meters are required:
RF Meter - to measure the level of radio frequency radiation in Volt's Per Meter - V/m.
Gauss Meter - to measure the level of AC magnetic field from electrical wiring measured in Milligauss - Mg.
Electric Field Meter - to measure the level of AC magnetic field from electrical wiring measured in Volt's Per Meter - V/m. Instead of an Electric Field Meter, you can use a Body Voltage Meter which you can purchase or make one yourself. These measure the amount of electric field your body is actually absorbing. In this way it is a bit more accurate for self-testing.
Dirty Electricity Meter - to measure the amount of Dirty Electricity traveling on electrical wiring typically measured in GS units.
Electronic Clamp Meter - to measure net current on metal pipes and exposed electrical lines.
Basic receptacle tester - to determine if your three-prong wall receptacle is grounded or not.
This testing process will likely take several hours to complete as each of the four human-made EMF's must be tested using different meters. The data you collect with your test meters will help determine your EMF radiation exposure levels. This information is needed to develop the proper shielding and mitigation methods for your unique environment.
As we guide you through this level three testing process, you will have the opportunity to ask questions so you can make informed decisions for how to proceed with creating a safer EMF home or workplace environment.
