How to oppose cell tower installation

Did you receive notice of a proposed cell tower installation near your home, neighborhood, school, or workplace? Do you want to oppose this installation? If so, EMF Consultation may be able to help you. 

There are important steps for you to take if you choose to oppose the installation as well as some important facts to be aware of. For example, the 1996 Telecommunications Act prohibits denial of cell tower permits because of health and environmental concerns: 

“No State or local government or instrumentality thereof may regulate the placement, construction, and modification of personal wireless service facilities on the basis of the environmental effects of radio frequency emissions to the extent that such facilities comply with the Commission's regulations concerning such emissions.” https://transition.fcc.gov/Reports/1934new.pd

What is a cell tower?

A Cell tower - also referred to as cell site, antenna, and transmitter - is a vertical structure usually made from metal and typically 50 to 200 feet high that includes a pole tower, base station, and cellular transmitters and antennas mounted either singularly or in clusters mounted on top of a pole tower.

Cell towers are part of the wireless network infrastructure which are presently needed to allow wireless devices like cell phones to connect to a wireless network service. Sometimes wireless antennas and transmitters are placed on roof tops instead of pole towers and can also be found on the side of buildings, and water tanks.
